Dr. Gordon was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. He graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa in 1983. In 1986 he received his Certificate in Periodontology from the University of South California School of Dentistry, in Los Angeles, California. Also in 1986 he received his California state license. He became a Diplomate for the American Board of Periodontology in 1993.

From 1986-1990 Dr. Gordon was the Clinical Instructor for the University of Southern California Department of Postdoctoral Periodontology. At this same time he was also the Course Instructor for:

1. Combined Perio/Prosthodontic Treatment Planning
2. Periodontal Surgical Therapy
3. Treatment Planning in Periodontics
